DAY 01: FLIGHT LIMA – CUSCO IN CITY TOUR & 4 RUINS Reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Welcome. We will then begin a 2-hour journey to Tambopata Lodge. The route starts with a 47 km paved road and 17 km unpaved, passing through farms and primary forests, until reaching Puerto Filadelfia on the Tambopata River, where a motorized boat will be waiting to take us on a 20-minute river adventure to Tambopata Lodge. (Box lunch en route). Reception and accommodation at the lodge. Overnight at Tambopata Lodge.
DAY 02: CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY + LUNCH Early morning, before sunrise, we board the boat for a 1.5-hour journey to Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, considered the most active in the world, located in the Tambopata National Reserve. The adventure offers beautiful natural scenery and wildlife along the riverbanks, where we might spot tapirs, monkeys, capybaras, and with luck: jaguars. Upon arrival, weather permitting, we’ll witness one of the most spectacular wildlife events, when hundreds of parrots and macaws gather to eat clay, offering a vibrant display of sound and color. Breakfast will be served at the site while waiting for the birds. Those who wish may swim in the Tambopata River or fish some of the 250+ fish species in the area. Overnight at Tambopata Lodge.
DAY 03: CUSCO – MACHU PICCHU After breakfast, we return by boat and road to Puerto Maldonado, where we will leave our luggage, have lunch, and rest briefly. During the journey, we may spot kingfishers, herons, monkeys, exotic birds… and with a bit of luck, a family of giant river otters. Later, we return to the Madre de Dios River and Puerto Maldonado. Overnight in Puerto Maldonado.
DAY 04: FLIGHT CUSCO – PUERTO MALDONADO – TAMBOPATA Breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight. End of our services.
DAY 05: TAMBOPATA JUNGLE TOUR – MACAW CLAY LICK We wake up early at 4:30 am to head to Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, the largest in the world, about a 1.5-hour boat ride away. On the way, we may see species such as capybaras (the largest rodents in the world), tapirs, and possibly even the beautiful jaguar. Once at the clay lick, we will observe hundreds of parrots of different species eating clay from the riverbank. After the parrots, the three most colorful macaw species of the Americas (red and green, blue and yellow) will arrive to feed. On a good day, you can see hundreds of these magnificent birds flying overhead—a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After breakfast, we return by boat to the lodge. In the afternoon, we visit Monkey Island across from our lodge, home to capuchin and squirrel monkeys. At night, we will search for white caimans along the riverbanks with flashlights and may also see capybaras. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest. Overnight at Tambopata Lodge.
DAY 06: TAMBOPATA JUNGLE TOUR – SANDOVAL LAKE After breakfast, we hike 3 km through the dense rainforest to Sandoval Lake (home to piranhas), one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. We will paddle around the lake, spotting a variety of birds and monkeys: hoatzin, cormorant, jacanas, herons, vultures, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, capuchins, and sloths. We may also encounter a family of endangered giant river otters (up to 2 meters long) and large black caimans (over 4 meters long). Return to the lodge for lunch. In the evening, a night walk to observe nocturnal insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other wildlife. Dinner and rest. Overnight at Tambopata Lodge.
DAY 07: FLIGHT FROM PUERTO MALDONADO TO LIMA At 5:30 am, a short canopy walk (30 meters above ground) offers panoramic views of the rainforest and the Madre de Dios River, with opportunities to spot various bird species. After breakfast, transfer to the city and to the airport for the flight back to Lima.
