DAY 2: PUNO – UROS & AMANTANÍ
The tour begins with hotel pick-up, followed by a transfer to Puno port where a boat will be waiting to visit the floating islands of Uros. It is said that the Uros people have inhabited these islands for hundreds of years. The Uros learned how to gather large amounts of the abundant totora reeds, binding them together to form small floating islands as platforms. These ancient inhabitants, known as the “water tribe,” continue to live on these man-made islands of reeds, which they must regularly maintain by adding new layers of totora. Their homes and boats are also made from this same material. After visiting Uros, you will continue by boat to the natural island of Amantaní. You will enjoy beautiful scenery and be warmly welcomed by a local family. You will have lunch at the host family’s home, where you will also stay overnight. In the afternoon, there will be walks to visit the ceremonial centers of Pachatata and Pachamama. Dinner and overnight stay in a rural house on Amantaní Island.
DAY 3: AMANTANÍ – TAQUILE – PUNO
After breakfast, you will have some time to explore the island. Around 10:00 am, the boat will depart for the natural island of Taquile, where you can enjoy the local flora and fauna. You will hike up to the main square of Taquile Island, which offers a spectacular panoramic view of the lake. Taquile is also famous for its handwoven textiles and craftsmanship, which you will see at the artisan center located in the main square. In the afternoon, return to Puno. Overnight in Puno.
DAY 4: PUNO – SILLUSTANI
(Breakfast included) Visit to the Sillustani burial towers (chullpas), one of the largest ancient cemeteries in the world. Surrounded by a stunning landscape, the site is known for its massive stone towers built by the Colla and Inca civilizations to house the remains of their nobles. Located 34 km northwest of Puno (about 50 minutes by road) at an altitude of 3,840 meters above sea level. The Sillustani archaeological site was built in the 12th century by the Qolla people before Inca domination. The most impressive towers were reserved for important leaders and priests. These ancient cultures considered burial sites sacred places of rest and rebirth, carefully choosing the most beautiful landscapes for their cemeteries. This magical place, with the surrounding mountains mirrored in Lake Umayo, is full of peace and harmony. Overnight in Puno.
DAY 5: PUNO – TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT
Free time to explore the city. At the appropriate time, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Lima.
